The Building Department issues building permits. One individual serves the following four functions; Building Inspector, Code Enforcement Officer, Fire Marshall and Sign Code Director.

The Inspector ensures that Village buildings meet the New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Codes. This person also checks to be sure the codes are met and issues written orders if violations are found.

The Inspector approves or rejects applications for; new construction, alterations and repairs to existing structures. The Inspector also acts as Fire Marshal, working in conjunction with the Fire Department to enforce codes designed to reduce the chance of fire or explosion. As Sign Code Director, the inspector checks existing or planned Village signs for compliance with our sign code
