The Village of Fairport owns and operates a Municipal Electric System encompassing
approximately 26  square miles including all the Village of Fairport and much of the Town of Perinton with a customer base of over 18,000 electric customers, a load of approximately 116 MW and is in search of an experienced line worker-journeymen who can contribute to the organization today. The Village of Fairport is a mature and progressive community located in  Monroe County, New York, approximately eleven (11) miles southeast of downtown Rochester.  The  Village is surrounded by the 
Town of Perinton and is adjacent to the neighboring municipalities of  Penfield to the North, Pittsford to the West, Egypt and Macedon to the East, and Victor to the South.  The  Village provides a full range of municipal services including police, fire and municipal electric.  The Fairport Municipal Commission provides reliable, economical electricity and has a budget of $26 million and approximately 48 employees.

This position serves as part of the electric operations staff for Fairport Electric and is a Monroe County civil  service position.  This is technical work in the erection, installation, and maintenance of overhead and underground electric 15kv power distribution lines and the rebuilding and maintenance of
115kv substations, underground vaults, and related equipment.  The work requires climbing poles and towers in various weather conditions and requires rigid observances of safety precautions to prevent personal injuries.

The Village of Fairport is seeking professional individuals who possesses the following proposed minimum qualifications: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma along with the completion of an electrical apprentice training school certificate and/or a minimum of four years’ experience in the field of electrical linework for these experienced line worker positions.

Credible knowledge of theory and principles of electricity and electrical distribution systems as they relate to duties; credible knowledge of standard safety measures and devices used in handling high voltage electrical circuits; credible knowledge of first aid methods, including resuscitation methods; skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade; working knowledge of OHMS Law; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to climb poles and towers; willingness to work in all weather conditions and report for outages and emergencies; ability to diagnose 
electrical distribution and substation issues and take necessary corrective action; steady nerves; ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and wiring diagrams; good hand, motor and eye coordination; dependability; resourcefulness; physical strength and stamina to perform arduous manual labor; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

The starting salary base range is $85-$100k depending upon qualifications and experience along with a highly competitive benefits package. Overtime on top of base pay ranges between $8-$15k annually.
